The Race

I found this very meaningful and inspiring story and would like to share with each and every one of you out there.

The Race

“There’s just too much against you now. This time you can’t succeed” And as I start to hang my head in front of failure’s face, my downward fall is broken by the memory of a race. And hope refills my weakened will as I recall that scene;

For just the thought of that short race rejuvenates my being. A children’s race -young boys, young men- how I remember well. Excitement, sure! But also fear; It wasn’t hard to tell.

They all lined up so full of hope; each thought to win that race. Or tie for first, or if not that, at least take second place. And fathers watched from off the side, each cheering for his son, and each boy hoped to show his dad that he would be the on. The whistle blew and off t hey went young hearts and hopes afire. To win and be the hero there was each young boy’s desire.

And one boy in particular, whose dad was in the crowd was running near the lead and thought: “My dad will be so proud!”. But as they sped down the field across a shallow dip, the little boy who thought to win lost his step and slipped. Trying hard to catch himself, his hands flew out to brace, but mid the laughter of the crowd, he fell flat on his face.

So down he fell and with his hope, he couldn’t win it now –Embarrassed, sad, he only wished to disappear somehow. But as he fell his dad stood up, and showed his anxious face which to the boy so clearly said: “Get up and win the race.”

He quickly rose, no damage done, behind a bit, that’s all- And ran with all his mind and might to make up for his fall. So anxious to restore himself to catch up and to win, his mind went faster than his legs; he slipped and fell again! He wished that he had quit before with only one disgrace. “I am hopeless as a runner now; I shouldn’t try to race.”

But in the laughing crowd he searched and found his father’s face; that steady look which say again: “Get up and win the race!” So up he jumped to try again ten yards behind the last. “If I am to gain those yards” he thought, “I have got to move real fast”

Exerting everything he had he regained eight or ten, but trying so hard to catch the lead he slipped and feel again! Defeat! he lay there silently, a tear dropped from his eye “there’s no sense running anymore; Three stikes: I am out! Why try!”

The will to rise had disappeared, all hope had fled away. So far behind, so error prone, a loser all the way “I have lost, so what is the use” he thought, “I have live with my disgrace” But then he thought about his dad who soon he’d have to face.

“Get up” an echo sounded low. “get up and take your place, you were not meant for failure here, get up and win the race” “With borrowed will get up” it said, “you haven’t lost at all, for winning is no more that this : To rise each time you fall.”

So up he rose to run once more, and with a new commit. He resolved that win or lose at least he wouldn’t quit. So far behind the others now, the most he’d ever been, still he gave it all he had and ran as though to win .

Three times he’d fallen, stumbling, three times he rose again. Too far behind to hope to win he still ran to the end. They cheered the winning runner as he crossed the line first place. Head high, and proud and happy, no falling no disgrace.

But when the fallen youngster crossed the line last place, the crowd gave him the greater cheer for finishing the race. And even though he came in last, with head bowed low, unproud, you would have thought he’d won the race to listen to the crowd. And to his dad he sadly said, “I didn’t do too well.” “To me, you won,” his father said. “You rose each time you fell.”

And now when things seem dark and hard and difficult to face, the memory of that little boy helps me in my race. For all of life is like that race, with ups and downs and all.

“And all you have to do to win, is rise each time you fall.”

Poem by Dee Groberg "

After reading this story, I found out a few things:

The race is just like the life of a Christian.

The crowd are just like the people around us, some of them might be cheering and supporting us all the way, while there would be some whom would discourage and laugh at us when we fall.

We are just like the little boy running the race. We always want finish our race with the best result, giving it all we have, but frequently face failure and fall down due to obstacle, temptation, lack of self-discipline and sin. And when we face failure, we will always feel, sad, hopeless, embarrassed, disgrace, useless and wanting to quit the race.

However the father of the little boy is just like our loving Heavenly Father. He is always there to give us strength and support in our race. For to Him, being the first place in the race is not important but to finish the race and rise each time we fall is as equal as wining the race. When we cross the finishing line, we would say “I didn’t do too well.” but let us hear from God saying to us“To Me, you won, you rose each time you fell.”

Therefore fellow Brothers and Sisters let us persevere in serving God, obeying his command and teachings, never give up even though we might face failure. Remember all we have to do to win is RISE EACH TIME WE FALL.

I hope this story could encourage and inspire those who are down and wanting to give up the race.

Let us all follow the foot steps of Apostle Paul for he said in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."

Overflow

Just want to share this meaningful song with you guys. It really touches and remind me how much we need God each time i listen to it. Enjoy

Chris Tomlin
Here I bring my stains and crowns
Gentle river wash me now
Your love is deeper than I know
Your ways higher than I can go

Lead me in Your holiness
I will follow, I confess
Glory is the song I sing
Your life is living me

And where would I be
Without You, without You?
Where would I be
Without You?

I will bow before the cross
Cherish my Redeemer's cost
There is nothing I can do
But only stand amazed by You

Mercy new with every day
Wrapped up in Your arms of grace
Nothing more, You're all I need
Your life is living me

Like a waterfall
You fill my heart and overflow
Like a candle flame
You light my way
And lead me as I go

Spirit overflow
Let me overflow

Yes Lord where would we be without you ?? We bring our stain crowns, lead us into Your holiness, like a waterfall fill our heart and overflow us with Your spirit.

26th Jan 2008

Our 2nd meeting in AGC Chinese Church, Taman Rasmi Jaya. Many youth turn up that day. For any group member who still having trouble going there u can always call the church member for help in transport.

So the verse for the week is:

*Philippians 4:6-7 "Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart. And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus"

We learn from this verse that always keep God in your heart and everything you do. Do not be afraid for God is always with you if u have faith in him. Tell God all your troubles and obstacles u are facing. And always in prayer asking Him for help and needs for He can help you in anything u are facing.

Sometimes you may feel that God didnt answer your prayer but God always answer your prayers. In the old testament *=*Psalms 86:7 "I call to You in times of trouble, because you answer my prayers". Your prayers may be answer in a different ways that you may not see. Maybe He have a better route for you to follow as only he knows you and want you to be the best you can be. 1 *Corinthians 2:9 "However, as the scriptures says, What no one ever saw or heard, what no one ever thought could happen, is the very thing God prepare for those who love him" So fellow member we must always be grateful in prayers and give everything to God so that He can help you during your time of manace.

Let's us pray together. Lord as we bow down we pray that Lord you teach us what You want us to do and help us to obey u faithfully, teach us to serve you with complete devotion. we pray this in Jesus name . Amen.

Fellow member let us see how this verse can be apply in our life and let us share this experience next week during cell group meeting =). Lastly hope you guys have a nice week and remember to walk with God with complete faith.

- Edwin~>.<~ -
P/S Joy brought her friend Micheal Michelle(forgive me if i spell wrong) to church and is delightful to see that everyone in the group willingly shared the gospel to Micheal Michelle. So thumbs up for the group member and Huray! for Joy hehe ^^

Keng Lik:
Errrhem, Micheal is a guy name la brother, I think Joy's friend name is Michelle Ng.

*Note those verse are not from the NIV version but from the "Good New Bible"(because Edwin is using that bible), so there is no error there.

Joy, thank you for bring your friend and sharing your testimony on that day. It was really very encouraging. Continue to bring her the following weeks if possible.

Well I would like all of us to pray for Michelle. Pray that she come to know Christ and pray that the Holy Spirit will open her eyes and ear and touch her heart
while Joy continue to share the gospel to her.

January 19 2008

Well guys this is our 3rd cell group meeting in 2008.I was really very encouraged to see so many youth turn up despite they have replacement class today, it must be tiering.

To my group member please forgive me for not being able to finish what we were suppose to finish today, because this week is our group turn to help out the children, that's why we have only limited and insufficient time to complete what we were suppose to do, furthermore it is my first time leading so please accept my apology to you guys.

Lets refresh what we learned today. And to inform those who didn't came today.
Ok the memory verse for this week is Galatians 6:10 "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."

In this verse we learn that it is important for us to do good whenever we can, not depending on what situation or circumstances we are in but ALL THE TIME (Every second is an opportunity, it is whether we recognize/realize it as a opportunity or not),

Not only do good to our family members, friends, the people we like/love, but to ALL PEOPLE, including our enemies, people that we don't like, people that are having problem, people that are bad in our view ...etc.

But most important of all, we should first learn and practice how to do good and love our brothers and sisters in Christ first, for we are one family. How can you love or do good to others while you dislike your own family member ? How could you show the love of Jesus to the non-believer while you hate your own family members ? What would others say about that ? They would think that we are hypocrites, acting good to them while doing bad to our own brothers and sisters.

Therefore brothers and sisters let us not do bad (gossip, defame, flaming, insulting...etc) to each other, but practice the love of Jesus between one another, and to the non-believer, so they might be able to see the love of Jesus through us, let our action speaks louder than words to win them for Jesus.

I hope this will help all the group member in understanding the verse from Galatians 6:10.

Besides the memory verses, I would like you all to think about the "Action Plans" which we doesn't have enough time to discuss on it and we will discuss it on the next youth meting. For those who were not here today and doesn't know what the "Action Plan" is, it is actually a plan on how can we achieve our youth mission. 'What we want to do ?' and 'What we are practically going to do to achieve it?' I hope each of you will have at least one practical action plan on the following week.

One more thing, please memorize this verse and our church vision and youth mission statement, for you will be asked to recite it the next week we gather.

Really have lots of fun during dinner time at the Ulu Langat's Gasoline, hope you guys enjoy not only the meal, but also the meaningful time we had together.

Have a nice week, don't forget to do your daily devotion and always walk with God no matter what happen, for you will not be led astray when God is with you and when you put your trust in Him.

Challenges, trials and problems in life

Found a very interesting story and i would like to share it with you all.

One day I decided to quit… ! quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality…i wanted to quit my life..

I went to the woods to have one last talk with GOD. “GOD”, I said.”Can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me…

“Look around”,
GOD said. “Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”

“Yes” I replied.

“When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo”.

GOD said. “In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit.” GOD said. “Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fenr it was seemingly small and insignificant.. But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It has spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle”

GOD said to me. “Did you know, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots?”

“I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you.”

“DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS” GOD said. “The bamboo has different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”

“YOUR TIME WILL COME”,GOD said to me. “You will rise high”

“How high should i rise?” I asked.

“How high will the bamboo rise?”

GOD asked in return.

“As high as it can?”I questioned

“Yes” GOD said, “Give me glory by rising as high as you can.”

I left the forest

Well to sum it up, when we face challenges, trials and problems in life, God is actually using all these to shape, mold and refine us. I felt very encourage and when ever i face challenges in life, i will this about this story. So NEVER give up, because God is not giving up on you, He is building you up instead and God will never let us handle more that we could hold.
